Since being diagnosed I have wanted to create a space where anyone living through an autoimmune condition, like Crohn's disease, or suffering through inflammation and other ailments, could come and feel comfortable in finding the dietary and lifestyle guidance they needed. A place with the answers I needed along the way.
To start this off, we have to address the elephant in the room: This world around us is not set up for our success. Toxins load our everyday lives and weigh us a little more with every substance’s consumption. Capitalism has made access to everything seem endless. The need for profits and a decreased bottom line have clouded our clarity. So much, that what was once known as rare autoimmune conditions have now reached most of us in one way or another. Our immune systems are broken. Our lifestyles are too fast for our own good. Our susceptibility to viruses and diseases is greater than ever.
I’m here to tell you that this doesn’t have to be the case. Not anymore. Not when the solutions are real, the food is still delicious, the price is the same, and success can be had.
Let’s go back to my beginnings. From nearly the time I was born, I’ve been fighting illnesses. Each sickness wore me down a little more and the next condition got a little worse, when all I ever wanted was to just be healthy. I’ve also always enjoyed helping others, being an artist, and finding relief from ailments in doing whatever it took to make people laugh. After decades of me hiding in laughter, medicine, and a reckless lifestyle came the diagnosis of the autoimmune condition, Crohn’s disease. A few years after, having ignored all the warning signs, I had eighteen inches of my intestine removed. A few years later, after still carrying on with the same habits, my infusion medicine caused a horrible case of shingles. It was then, after nearly thirty years of pain, bloody stools, frustration, depression, surgeries, poor diet, no answers, one pill solutions, and a toxic lifestyle, that I decided to finally find my own smiles, or solutions. Letting go of the dependency and helping the person who needed it the most.
This self-taught approach evolved from my experience and slowly grew through years of reading every label, researching every ingredient, and understanding all aspects of how the body functions. Eventually I heard the words that everyone suffering from illness deserves to hear: “no active disease.”
That was a special day. I was elated, relieved, proud, and right. I was also angry. So, so angry. I was angry because I always knew I had the will to heal, but it took that long to give myself the permission. After that day, I again resorted to creative therapy and started to write down my story and methods. To resolve my unresolved (Chapter 10, Part II.1 of My Simple Changes) and to pay it forward so you can heal as well.
I always felt like nobody held my best interest in mind for my specific conditions. Products, medical guidance, online information, and more. So, that's my promise to you. To always keep your best interest in mind. That's what this platform represents to me. The unsolicited voice that I always wanted.
Now, let’s get to making some Changes!
